Talk with community partners, browse resources and connect with local organizations to find ways you can make a difference in the face of climate change. Recycle your plastic into building materials. Listen to a talk from a specialist of the Department of Environmental Conservation Solid Waste Program on the unique waste stream in Alaska, how we manage landfills and how you can rethink your household refuse. Sign up to participate in the first Trashy Art Challenge, rethinking waste items into creative visuals.

5-8:30 p.m. Trashy Art Challenge: Consider your trash as a resource to make art. This month, we are challenging individuals, families or social groups to get together and pick up trash, do their own household trash audit or simply collect discarded items and create artwork for Seed Lab’s Trashy Art Challenge. Artwork could be a sculpture, a stop-motion movie, photographs, wearables or used as tools to create 2D mark-making. What can you create from the refuse that exists around you? Contributors will submit photos, videos or physical pieces to the challenge to be displayed First Friday, May 5 in Seed Lab. Community judges will award prizes for various categories including: Most Innovative Incorporation of an Item, Best Narrative Piece, Overall, Jury Prize and Audience Choice Award. Free to participate.
