Alutiiq and Unangan Grass Mat Weaving Workshop

Grass weaving is a customary skill used by Alutiiq and Unangan people for generations to create clothing, baskets and mats. Join June Pardue and Barbara Shangin for a grass weaving workshop series at the Anchorage Museum. Over 5 sessions, participants will learn about grass weaving and create a small Alutiiq- or Unangan-style grass mat to take home. 

 Likely of most interest to Alaska Native participants, but open to all. Registration required. Registration is for the full five-class series; participants must be able to attend the full series. $40 Materials fee. Scholarships available upon request.
