ANCHORAGE, AK — Against a backdrop that celebrates life in Alaska and the Arctic, the Anchorage Museum will host artworks by notable modern American artists through a partnership with the National Gallery of Art for the National Gallery’s “Across the Nation” program, which brings key works of art to regional museums across the United States in 2025 and 2026.

The Anchorage Museum was selected as one of only 10 partner institutions nationwide. “Across the Nation” brings landmark paintings into direct dialogue with the Museum’s collections and Alaska’s unique cultural landscape.
These works from the National Gallery of Art collection will join other major artworks on loan from art institutions around the country for the exhibition Cold War to the Cosmos, which examines the Cold War’s broader impact on American society during the Atomic Age, reflected through politics, art, and culture. Those include a work by Franz Kline from the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts; work by Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning from the Smithsonian American Art Museum; a painting by Adolph Gottlieb from the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art; a photograph and sculpture by Trevor Paglen from the Nevada Museum of Art; and paintings and sculpture by Grace Hartigan, Theodore Roszak, and Conrad Marca-Relli from the Art Bridges Foundation. These join works by other contemporary artists and work from the Museum’s own collections.
