2025 ALASKA TRIENNIAL EXHIBITION PUTS NEW ALASKAN ARTWORKS ON VIEW AT THE MUSEUM
On view Feb. 7, 2025 - Sept. 7, 2025
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The depth and diversity of Alaska contemporary art will be on view in the 2025 Alaska Triennial, opening Feb. 7, 2025, at the Anchorage Museum. This highly anticipated exhibition presents a major survey of contemporary art in Alaska through the works of 47 artists selected from across the state.
Juried by Mary Bradshaw, curator and director of Visual Arts at the Yukon Arts Centre (Whitehorse, YT, Canada), the 2025 Alaska Triennial showcases a rich tapestry of artistic expression, with works ranging from intricate beadwork, textiles, and encaustic to ceramics, printmaking, woodworking, and beyond. The Alaska Triennial received 222 applications through an open call, and 47 artists were selected in a blind jurying process, representing communities from across the state, including Kodiak, Fort Yukon, Juneau, and others.
The exhibition celebrates Alaska’s unique sense of place through the lens of contemporary art. Featuring art created since 2022, it also encourages the creation of new works by Alaska artists.
“The landscape looms large in the North,” says Bradshaw. “Selected works present an interplay of tradition and innovation—at once surprising and familiar, grounding and transformative. Together, these works invite visitors to see Alaska through the eyes of its artists: a place where people, land, and possibility remain deeply and inextricably connected.”
Adds Anchorage Museum Assistant Curator Rachel Boesenberg, “The exhibition reflects the vibrancy of the artistic community in our state. We see a breadth of mediums and an array of stories and emotions.”
