THE BEST IN CONTEMPORARY ALASKA NATIVE ART

The Anchorage Museum holds one of the most extensive collections of contemporary Alaska Native art in both traditional and non-traditional styles. This collection is featured in the ConocoPhillips Gallery, on the addition’s second floor and adjacent to the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center.

The gallery's inaugural exhibition is (Re)Emergence: Contemporary Native Art and Design from the Anchorage Museum. This exhibition helps shape our understanding of what it means to be Native in Alaska today. Objects in this exhibit include a glass hat by Tlingit artist Preston Singletary, yellow cedar masks by Athabascan artist Kathleen Carlo-Kendall, and a print by Inupiaq artist Bernard T. Katexac.
