Michaela Goade
Tlingit and Norwegian artist Michaela Goade grew up in Juneau, Alaska in a creative family that nurtured her artistic and musical interests. Early memories are informed by being surrounded by water and trips “traveling the ocean, waterways, camping, fishing, playing on beaches … occasionally being terrified and also having magical encounters with weather and water.” Goade is a Caldecott Medalist and illustrated the #1 New York Times Bestseller “We Are Water Protectors," along with several other award-winning books.
Goade was raised in the rainforest and on the beaches of Southeast Alaska, traditional Lingít Aaní (Tlingit land). Today she lives in Sheet’ká (Sitka), Alaska.
