Bugs!

Bugs

A Children's Exhibits of Bugs in Art

Learning About Art
ART has been around for a very, very long time. Art teaches us a lot about a time and a place and the people who occupied that time and place. Art can document important people and important events or even just thoughts and stories. Artists use many different types of materials and portray many different types of things. In this exhibition, of course, the artworks are all about bugs. The key to understanding and enjoying art is looking and thinking. Look at the SHAPES, COLORS, PATTERNS, TEXTURES and IMAGES. What do you see? What does the artwork make you think about? How does it make you feel?

Learning About Bugs
BUGS are creatures that do not have a backbone or a skull. This includes a huge range of creatures, both large and small. We use the word BUG to mean almost any creepy crawly thing. An INSECT is something much more specific. There are more insects on Earth than any other type of animal. Scientists know about one million kinds of insects and they are still counting. All adult insects have a body that is divided into three parts: the HEAD that has the insect’s eyes, jaws and antennae; the THORAX that has the legs and wings; and the ABDOMEN where the insect breaks down its food and where eggs are made.
